Ventrilo Change
Detox ServersDetox Game Services has decided to switch ventrilo providers from NationVoice to DarkStar LLC. All our vent servers have been moved and the users should see no change in IP or ventrilo port. However, all servers have been freshly installed and reverted back to the settings of when they were first installed. If you cannot remember your original passwords or if you are having trouble accessing the servers please feel free to email us at support@detoxservers.com and we will be happy to help you resolve the issues.

Progress and NEW St. Louis Location
Detox ServersAlright, well it has been about a month since everyone has been updated on the status of our servers and control panel. After the disaster that was the STEAM update of the HL1 engine we have updated all the game servers and things seem to be getting back to normal. However, we are aware that there are still a few issues with the engine and we are hoping that STEAM will release some new updates here shortly. We also felt it important to mention that the NEW control panel that we are custom coding is getting closer by the day and it is starting to come together nicely. We will hopefully start some beta testing of a few customers on it in the next few weeks. I also would like to mention that we have added a NEW location in St. Louis, MO that is active as of last week, and we will be adding test IPs up on the site soon. Lastly, I will be making a trip up to New York in the middle of this month to put the new QuadCore processors in the boxes there. These are the same 2.1Ghz AMD processors that are currently running in our Chicago location and FPS has never been more stable. Lastly, if anyone is still having issues with their servers or if they are experiencing any FPS loss please let us know through the support ticket system and we will be happy to correct the issue.

Upgrades and Outage
Detox ServersAs promised by the post made back in August, we will go ahead with the maintenance to the Chicago server boxes. During this process we will be upgrading the CPUs on the boxes to QuadCores as well as changing IP addresses. This work will be carried out during the day on Friday September 26th. There WILL be downtime during the day but we expect all servers to be back up and running that evening. Please check your control panel for updates on the process and to determine if you are going to be affected by the outage.

Good NEWS for Chicago
Detox ServersI just wanted to update you on the status of our network and hardware in the Chicago area. Detox has decided to upgrade our boxes in Chicago to Dual Quad Core 2.1GHz processors on our boxes. That means that each box will be running 8 Cores at 2.1GHz. As well as the upgrades to the existing server boxes we will be sending out 2 brand new servers to both the Chicago and New York locations. The servers will have the same specs as our orignal hardware which you can see here. These new processors and servers will help in expanding Detox and bring you all much better game play.

News for Chicago Customers
Detox ServersIt has been brought to our attention that our Service Provider in Chicago will be migrating to a new data center on Sunday August 10th. However, it appears that our boxes will not be affected by the change until the 22nd of August. Here is the information on the switch:

On the morning of Sunday, August 10, 2008 between the hours of 3 AM and 7 AM, We will be conducting a network migration as a major upgrade to our Chicago facilities. Although we understand the short-term inconvenience of this move, we do believe that drawing the 3 years of service we've provided from 350 Cermak to a close has benefits which far outweigh the negatives, such as..
  • Increased facility redundancy
  • Better cooling
  • Improved overall standards (SAS 70 Type II certified, etc.)
  • Despite those shortcomings, 350 Cermak is at capacity and it's not far off that significant rate increases would have needed to flow down

This move is being done in 3 phases, with 3 staff members on-site for every cabinet being moved in the given night. This being Phase 1, we will be moving all servers with IP addresses beginning with 69.147.x.x or 216.6.x.x, and we hope to have the move completed long before the posted maintenance window is up. Phases 2 and 3 are currently planned for the weekend of 8/24 and will see more information posted before that time.

We will be doing soft shut-downs on all Linux servers as well as any Windows servers we are given access to, and will be verifying that all servers have come back online before maintenance is confirmed as complete.

As for information on the new facility, connectivity will stay consistent with Mzima Networks as our primary NSP with a redundant fiber loop back to Cermak. Our tests have shown a latency increase of < 1ms to Equinix when compared to the connection running to the 2nd floor that's seen now (test IP of the new network: 69.147.255.130). Photos of the new data center can be found at http://photos.ubiquityhosting.com/main.php?g2_itemId=97. We are also using this opportunity to implement a much upgraded redundant network core for Chicago, which has already online and powering the aforementioned test IP for the past month and is long overdue.
